Position Opening: Barn/Equine Manager

Hooves of Hope Equestrian Center, Inc. is searching for an educated, responsible, self-motivated

individual to fulfil the position of Barn/Equine Manger. Applicants must have at minimum 5 years of

hands-on experience in the equine industry, or a comparable bachelor’s degree in an equine related field.

Applicants must be compassionate with a calm and flexible demeanor in order to fit the diverse work of a

Reports to: Executive Director, Program Director

Supervises: Barn staff, volunteers while working in the barn

Type of position: Independent Contractor (IC)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform and manage the following: daily feeding, medicating, treating, grooming, bathing, clipping, Theraplating, deworming, and complete care of 10-15 equines.

  • Schedule and facilitate all farrier, vet, and chiropractic appointments as well as inventory grain, hay, medications, topical treatments, etc.

  • Ensure all equines and areas of use are prepared for lessons, programing, and special events at their appointed times.

  • Perform and manage all barn/field maintenance including cleaning run-in sheds, cleaning stalls, water and dragging arena, cleaning water troughs, etc.

  • Manage exercise and conditioning of all equines

  • Coordinate and implement training needs of all equines with Executive Director, Program Director, and Instructors based on that equine’s role in equine facilitated therapies and activities.

  • Manage and ensure safety of volunteers while they are working in the barn and around equines.

  • Assist with lessons, programs, volunteer trainings, special events, fundraisers, site visits, etc.

Required Qualifications:

  • Applicant must be 18 years or older and possess a valid driver’s license and transportation

  • 5 years of hands-on equine experiences in the equine industry OR a comparable bachelor’s degree in an equine related field

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or GED

  • Physically able to lift 75 pounds of grain/hay/equipment, able to walk and jog on uneven surfaces

  • CPR and First Aid Certification OR plans to be certified within 3 months of contractor start date

  • Pass a background check with no history of abuse, neglect, or harm of humans or animals

  • Thorough knowledge of equine care and English and Western riding

  • Motivated to learn and improve skills, be solution focused, possess problem-solving skills, excellent interpersonal skills, group mediation skills, and communication skills

Hours:

  • This position will be filled as an Independent Contractor (IC). IC will receive a 1099 form and be responsible for filing their own taxes.

  • IC may need to fill in for the occasional weekend feeding; however, the position is a Monday-Friday position.

  • IC can accrue 40 hours per week. Hours will be determined by the IC as the hours necessary to meet all of the above requirements based on the scheduling of lessons, programs, groups, events, etc.
